Musical & Choral Performances and Amazing Displays of Christmas Cookies & Floral Arrangements Made the Day Merry and Bright
(December 25, 2017 – New York, NY) – More than 150 senior citizens gathered at our Carter Burden Luncheon Club on Manhattan’s Upper East Side on Christmas Day to celebrate the holiday together on a day when they might otherwise be alone.
The room overflowed with amazing cookie platters, exquisite floral arrangements and holiday decorations. The cookies, décor and musical performances by a chamber music ensemble and members of the St. Ignatius Choir were made possible thanks to the incredible generosity of the CBN's Board Members.
On the menu for the very special day was a festive feast of beef short ribs, broccolini, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, Greek salad, apple cider and cheese platters.
Joining the seniors for the celebration were William J. Dionne, Executive Director, Susan L. Burden, Founding Board Member, and numerous other Board Members, staff and volunteers.
Also on hand was Rachel Sherrow, Associate Executive Director & Chief Program Officer at Citymeals on Wheels which provided generous funding for both Carter Burden Network’s congregate holiday lunch and home-delivered Christmas meals. As a strategic partner, Citymeals on Wheels provides funding for weekend, holiday and emergency meals and volunteer services to Carter Burden Network’s homebound seniors.
Dionne said, “The spirit of giving certainly filled the room today. On this special day, when so many of the seniors we serve are alone and missing family, friends, and traditions long gone, they were given the chance to enjoy the warm company of others, a delicious meal, and the beautiful sights and sounds of the season. I’d like to offer a special ‘thank you’ to Citymeals on Wheels for ensuring our seniors had a wonderful meal today. I’d also like to thank the Carter Burden Network Board members for generously providing the delectable cookies, gorgeous centerpieces and festive music. This has truly been a holiday celebration to remember.”
