We are so happy to announce our recent partnership with New York Community Trust. The group recently gifted us with a grant that will provide 40 Roosevelt Island homebound seniors and individuals with disabilities with virtual connection via Amazon Echo smart screens. The project will help combat isolation by enabling participants to access programs remotely, make video calls, and leverage features that support health & wellness like medication adherence reminders and healthy cooking demos. We are so grateful for this generous and innovative grant! Click here to read more about this fabulous grant in the NYCT newsletter.
WNJU Telemundo Video - July Heat Wave
As the temperatures have been breaking 90 degrees this July, our seniors have been enjoying air conditioning, nutritious meals, and cool activities. The heatwave brought the press to our Leonard/ Covello Senior Center to spread the word about cooling centers. All of our senior centers have cold air for people to enjoy. Because heatwaves can be a potential health risk to seniors, we have plenty of space for people to cool off and enjoy fun activities.
NY1 Video - Covello and Heat Wave Tips
The heat has been out of control this July. High temperatures are health risks for seniors. Luckily, all of our CBN centers double as cooling centers. Our karaoke machine is blasting the tunes, and the air conditioner is blasting cold air for our seniors to relax and have a good time. We have plenty of space to hold activities for members of the community to have fun and escape the sun for a few hours. Watch the NY1 video below to see our member Joseph Smith and other seniors at our Covello Senior Center beat the heat!

NY1 Video - Arnold Nelson New Yorker of the Week
Our very own, Arnold Nelson was named NY1’s New Yorker of the Week. We are ecstatic for Arnold as he truly deserves this recognition. He always walks the halls of our Leonard Covello Senior Program with a wide smile on his face. Often coming in on his days off to gladly help out, his dedication to our seniors is extraordinary. Thanks, Arnold not only for your continued hard work but for also the joy you bring to others. Click here to watch Arnold’s interview with NY1’s Pat Kiernan.
